Positive visa changes are planned for parents wishing to have longer stays in Australia. Currently, long term visas for parents involve significant waiting times or great cost (or both).
From November 2017 (exact date will be specified), it will be possible to apply for temporary visas for parents of Australian permanent visa holders or citizens for a period of 3 or 5 years. The three-year visa will cost AUD 5000 and the 5-year visa AUD 10,000.
The visa can be applied for twice only for a maximum stay of 10 years. The fee is per person not per application so both parents can be included for the same cost.
